The Intended Audience for the 60.42-Initial Wire Insertion Course are students who seek training to become a state-licensed chairside orthodontic assistant who places braces and inserts orthodontic wires.
The student should first complete the 10.03-Introduction to OrthoTraining course before subscribing to this 60.42-Initial Wire Insertion Course to learn how to efficiently navigate through a course, learning, remembering, and recalling the course objectives.
Minimum prerequisites for students who take this course are graduation from high school and 6 or more months of employment in an orthodontic practice. Students should be proficient in English.
Suggested prerequisites are college level courses in basic writing, basic math, introductory courses in biology, chemistry, anatomy and physiology, microbiology, and psychology. These courses will give students a solid foundation for future knowledge and advancement as an Orthodontic Assistant.
Course Content of 60.42-Initial Wire Insertion Course
The 60.42-Initial Wire Insertion Course Presentation is 25 minutes run time with embedded quiz questions to facilitate focus and learning. There are 22 Knowledge Quiz questions. This course teaches important concepts for inserting the initial wires into the orthodontic braces that have just been placed on the patient’s teeth. These initial wires are listed on the treatment plan that the doctor has written for treating the patient.

Goal -
The goal of the 60.42-Initial Wire Insertion Course is to share information about the procedures for selection and insertion of the initial alignment wires in a newly bonded patient.
Objectives -
At the conclusion of this course the learner will be able to list, describe, and demonstrate each step of selecting, inserting, and tying in initial wires in a newly bonded patient.
