Intended Audience and Prerequisites for 60.11-Separators Course

The Intended Audience for the Separators course are students who seek training to become a state licensed chairside orthodontic assistant who places braces on a patient’s teeth.

The student should first complete the 10.03-Introduction to OrthoTraining course before subscribing to this Separators course to learn how to efficiently navigate through a course, learning, remembering, and recalling the course objectives.

Minimum prerequisites for students who take this course are graduation from high school and 6 or more months of employment in an orthodontic practice. Students should be proficient in English.

Suggested prerequisites are college level courses in basic writing, basic math, introductory courses in biology, chemistry, anatomy and physiology, microbiology, and psychology. These courses will give students a solid foundation for future knowledge and advancement as an Orthodontic Assistant.

Course Content of 60.11-Orthodontic Separators

The Orthodontic Separators course Presentation is 25 minutes with embedded quiz questions to facilitate focus and learning. There are 18 Knowledge Quiz questions. This course teaches everything an individual needs to know to select, place, and remove orthodontic separators carefully and safely.

The Educational Goal and Objectives for 60.11-Orthodontic Separators Course

Goal -

The goal of the Orthodontic Separators Course is to instruct the student in selection, placement, and removal of orthodontic separators in preparation for fitting and cementing orthodontic bands on the teeth.

 

Objectives -

At the conclusion of this course the learner will:

  • Describe the purpose of separators
  • List 6 types of separators and the special features of each type
  • Describe when each type of separator is indicated for use
  • Demonstrate placement of each type of separator
  • Describe special precautions that should be taken when placing each type of separator
  • Give instructions to a patient for each type of separator
  • Enter chart notes about placement of separators
  • Describe procedures that should be done when a patient is “missing” a separator
  • Demonstrate the removal of each type of separator
  • Determine if special procedures will be necessary relative to the amount of interproximal space that was created for banding
  • Describe procedures that are completed to close band space after debanding

Course Subscription Fee: The 60.11-Orthodontic Separators Course subscription fee is US$40 for 30 days of access to the course and Course Resources for a single user.

Refund and cancellation policies:

A full refund will be given IF requested within 5 days (120 hours) after subscribing to the course, AND if the user has NOT OPENED the Course Presentation or any Knowledge Quizzes which generates a SCORM Tracking fee.

Once the student has started the presentation or a Knowledge Quiz, there is NO REFUND. The student should complete the course within the access period to earn the 2 CE credits.

Course Release Date was January 2024. The next Course Review Date is December 2027.
