Intended Audience and Prerequisites for 60.12-Orthodontic Banding Course

The Intended Audience for the 60.12-Orthodontic Banding course are students who seek training to become a state licensed chairside orthodontic assistant who places braces on a patient’s teeth.

The student should first complete the 10.03-Introduction to OrthoTraining course before subscribing to this 60.12-Orthodontic Banding course to learn how to efficiently navigate through a course, learning, remembering, and recalling the course objectives.

Minimum prerequisites for students who take this course are graduation from high school and 6 or more months of employment in an orthodontic practice. Students should be proficient in English.

Suggested prerequisites are college level courses in basic writing, basic math, introductory courses in biology, chemistry, anatomy and physiology, microbiology, and psychology. These courses will give students a solid foundation for future knowledge and advancement as an Orthodontic Assistant.

Course Content of 60.12-Orthodontic Banding

The 60.12-Orthodontic Banding course Presentation is 1 hour and 41 minutes run time with embedded quiz questions to facilitate focus and learning. There are 17 Knowledge Quiz questions. This course teaches every detail about band recognition, fitting, and cementation so that the individual who completes this course will be able to competently identify, fit, and cement orthodontic bands to the teeth. Orthodontic bands are not used as much today as they were in the 1970s when orthodontic bonding was introduced. Consequently, this course has been shortened to cover critical concepts. Yet, a special section has been included regarding fitting bands to specific teeth for when the orthodontic assistant encounters difficulties in a certain area.

The Educational Goal and Objectives for 60.12-Orthodontic Banding Course

Goal -

The goal of the Orthodontic Banding Course is to instruct the student in identifying and selection of correct bands, fitting, and cementing of orthodontic bands on the teeth.

Objectives -

At the conclusion of this course the learner will:

  • List 14 benefits of well-fitting bands
  • List 16 criteria of well-fitting bands
  • Identify and sort bands by materials, shapes, and sizes
  • Identify and sort band brackets
  • State the purpose of band bracket components so that the band features can be fully used
  • Recognize and understand the use of auxiliary band attachments
  • Select, organize, and prepare all materials for fitting bands
  • Describe in detail all steps in fitting bands
  • Describe specific challenges to fitting bands to selected teeth
  • Select, organize, and prepare 20 items for cementation of bands
  • Describe the different features and working procedures for at least 3 types of cementation materials
  • Describe in detail each step in the cementation of bands
  • Conduct band-failure charting to determine the factors that are contributing to band failure and corrective measures

Refund and cancellation policies:

A full refund will be given IF requested within 5 days (120 hours) after subscribing to the course, AND if the user has NOT OPENED the Course Presentation or any Knowledge Quizzes which generates a SCORM Tracking fee.

Once the student has started the presentation or a Knowledge Quiz, there is NO REFUND. The student should complete the course within the access period to earn the 3 CE Credits.
